The story behind BIRCH

The BIRCH collection began with a memory from my childhood.

There was a birch tree in the garden of my parents’ home.

For me, it was never just a tree.

It was part of the landscape of my childhood — something familiar, something that was always there.

Its white trunk, delicate branches, and light leaves became part of my personal image of home.

But the story of BIRCH is also the story of my family.

When I was growing up, our home was a place where our relatives and family gathered together during holidays and weekends.

The table was always full of food, conversations, laughter, and stories.

People came together, shared meals, talked about life, remembered the past, and created new memories.

The house was filled with the warmth of family gatherings.

And these moments stayed with me.

Years later, when I began creating the BIRCH collection, I wanted to return to that feeling.

To the feeling of a home where people gather.

Where there is always a place at the table.

Where family stories are passed from one generation to another.

And where ordinary gatherings become some of the most important memories of our lives.

BIRCH is my personal reflection on these memories.

About the traditions we inherit and the memories we carry with us.

The birch as I remember it

The birch tree from my childhood became one of the central visual elements of the collection.

But the BIRCH collection is not an exact botanical representation of a tree.

It is my childhood vision of it.

The way I remember it.

The way it existed in my imagination as a child.

Every drawing on the surface of the collection is created by hand.

Each line is carefully drawn individually, creating a unique interpretation of the birch branches and leaves.

The drawings are not mechanically reproduced.

They are created by hand, piece by piece.

This makes every object part of the same visual story while allowing each piece to remain unique.

In this way, the collection preserves not only the image of the birch itself, but also the personal memory behind it.

More than tableware

BIRCH was created as a complete family collection for six people.

It includes 66 handmade ceramic pieces, designed for family gatherings, celebrations, weekends, and everyday life.

But its purpose is not simply to provide a complete set of tableware.

The collection is created to become part of the moments that happen around the table.

A family breakfast.

A holiday gathering.

A long dinner with relatives.

A conversation that continues late into the evening.

The collection is created with the belief that objects can become silent witnesses to our lives.

The same plates can be present during birthdays, celebrations, everyday meals, and family milestones.

And over time, they can become part of the family’s own history.

More than 20 stages of handmade work

Every piece in the BIRCH collection passes through more than 20 stages of manual work.

From the first contact with the clay to the final quality inspection, every stage requires time, patience, precision, and attention.

Each piece is:

• formed by hand;
• carefully refined;
• slowly dried;
• individually inspected;
• prepared for firing;
• fired at high temperature;
• manually finished;
• individually decorated;
• covered with the final surface treatment;
• fired again;
• inspected and quality-checked.

The process is not rushed.

The collection is created slowly because handmade ceramics require time.

And because each piece carries not only the material, but also the work, attention, and energy invested in its creation.

A three-stage firing process

The BIRCH collection undergoes a three-stage firing process.

Each stage plays an important role in the final result.

Between the firings, every piece is carefully checked, processed, and prepared for the next stage.

This extended process allows me to pay special attention to the quality and details of every object.

The collection is created slowly and carefully, with every stage contributing to the final character of the ceramic.

Without coloured glaze

The distinctive appearance of the BIRCH collection is created without the use of coloured glaze.

The visual character of the collection comes from the interaction between the ceramic material, the hand-drawn decoration, the surface treatment, and the firing process.

The final result is not intended to look industrially identical.

Each piece retains the character of handmade ceramics.

Every piece is unique

Every BIRCH piece is created individually.

The hand-drawn decoration means that no two objects can be absolutely identical.

Subtle differences in the lines, details, surface, and natural characteristics of the material are part of the identity of the collection.

These differences are not imperfections.

They are evidence of the human hand.

Every piece carries a small part of the process through which it was created.

A truly limited family collection

The BIRCH collection is limited to 10 families worldwide.

The same principle applies to the FOREST collection.

Only 10 families around the world will have the opportunity to acquire each of these limited family collections.

The collection is not intended to be produced endlessly or made available to an unlimited number of customers.

Each family becomes part of a very limited circle of owners.

A family collection that can grow with your family

The family set can be created for any number of people.

The initial collection can be ordered according to the size of your family.

But the most important part of this limited concept is that the collection can continue to grow only within the family that originally acquired it.

If, over time, a new family is formed within the family — for example, if children grow up and create their own families — additional pieces can be created specifically for them.

In this way, the collection can become something that continues through generations.

The original family acquires the collection.

And over time, new pieces can be added for the next generation of that same family.

The collection remains connected to its original owners and their family story.

This means that the value of the collection is not only in the objects themselves.

As the number of available family collections decreases, the price of future editions increases.
